What is the easiest and single most important thing you can do to
alleviate the tragedy of homeless cats and dogs and the needless killing (aka
"euthanasia") of healthy, adoptable companion animals?
SPAY OR
NEUTER YOUR PET!
You do not have to pay hundreds of dollars
at a full service vet. There are many low-cost spay-neuter clinics. Even if
you think you can place the puppies and the kittens.... remember, allowing a litter of cats or dogs to be
brought into the world is a death warrant for the cats and dogs already in a
shelter and needing a home.
Each day, 10,000 people are born in the U.S.A. and each day it is estimated 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, most dogs and cats will have a short, miserable existence.
Your pet, male or female, will be healthier and live longer if spayed of neutered.
This will also prevent undesirable behavior such as spraying, barking, caterwauling and running off. Neutered pets, especially males, are also less vulnerable to theft because dogs and cats are often stolen to be used by backyard breeders and puppy mills.
Feral
(wild) Cats
Are you feeding some stray cats? Do you care about feral cats or
the sorry number of strays in our community? Have you heard about the most
effective and humane method for controlling the proliferation of feral cats? It
is called "TNR" (Trap-Neuter-Relaese)? CLICK HERE to
learn about TNR and Alley Cat Allies. There are numerous local organizations
that help feral cat caretakers and certain vet clinics that are "feral
friendly". For a list of Ohio based TNR organizations, go to: http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/feral_cats/tips/feral_cat_organizations.html

Show your love for pets
and your respect for life. Purchase an Ohio Pet Friendly license plate to help
fund spay/neuter programs in our State. Click on the plate for more details. http://www.petsohio.com/spayneuter.html

Humane Ohio operates a non-profit, low-cost spay/neuter clinic to serve pet owners, feral/stray cat caretakers, animal shelters and rescue groups. We serve all area pet owners, and we offer a special, even lower rate to pet owners on Medicaid, Food Stamps, WIC, SSI, Section 8 Public Housing, AFDC, TANF and the Heat Assistance Program. We have 27 animal shelter/rescue group partners and we spay/neuter their animals before adoption. We send our transport van to all of our partners outside of the immediate Toledo area and transport their animals to/from our clinic for their spay/neuter surgeries, and we make low-cost spay/neuter available to pet parents in outlying counties by allowing them to schedule their owned pets on the free transports with the shelter animals. We serve seven counties in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan and spay/neuter at least 14,000 animals a year.
